The DISTANCE-trial is a stepped-wedge clustered randomised trial, in which patient-led, home-based follow-up will be implemented for curatively treated stage II and III colorectal cancer patients. During the trial, five participating centres will switch from their in-hospital, standard of care follow-up to the new follow-up schedule. The new CRC follow-up guideline with be implemented simultaneously with the patient-led, home-based follow-up schedule. Outcomes of the in-hospital and home-based follow-up schedules will be compared between 12 and 24 months after resection. Gathering of data is possible due to informed consent for PLCRC.
